Fishing grounds: You’ll start fishing the 40 fathom (240 feet) ledge 5 minutes out of the harbor for Ono (Wahoo) Mahi Mahi (Dorado) Ahi (yellow Fin tuna) and Aku (Skip jack tuna), while the run to the 500 to 1000 fathom drop is only a half hour out. Here’s where we catch most of our Big Blue marlin and Ahi over 100 lbs. There are several FAD buoys deployed off the island in a 1000 fathoms (6000 feet) of water to attract fish and are great for live baiting and chunking.

Captain Scott started his fishing career off of Kauai with his father at the age of six, and has been making a living commercial fishing the waters around Kauai ever since. He has also extensively fished the waters off of Niihau, Kaula Rock, Middle banks (80 miles NW of Kauai) all the way to the island of Nihoa, (143 miles NW of Kauai) for the past 19 yrs. The deep blue waters surrounding Kauai provide some of the best deep sea fishing anywhere. Most species can be caught year round because the water varies only a few degrees in temperature during the year.

As with our other boats, w
e recommend full day charters because covering more area or "ground" can definitely be an advantage when the fish are not concentrated in one place. High speed trolling will allow more area to be covered and can also trigger an aggressive response from a marlin, even if he may not be hungry. Come join us for an adventure and experience of a lifetime.

Fish Disposition

Catch and release up on request.  You can keep as much of the catch as you want.  Boat will arrange to have your catch packaged and shipped anywhere FedEx ships 2 day within the United States.  Customer pays all shipping, packaging and processing costs.  There is no flash freezing or vacuum sealing available on Kauai, so the catch is shipped fresh with cold packs.  If you are interested in shipping your catch, please let us know as there are limitations on the shipping schedule which you will want to work around when scheduling your charter date.

Comments from Steven & Angela of Colorado who chartered Lahela:

"We would like to take a moment to thank you for a great day of fishing.  Our day will always be remembered for the laughs we shared as well as the impressive catch. Needless to say the striped Marlin was the star of the show. However your patience in handling two novice fisherman added to our appreciation and enjoyment of what turned out to be a terrific adventure.

After learning that our catch was the first Marlin in the year 2000 on Kauai, my wife and I were even more excited. We will always enjoy the memories from this vacation. This is a fishing story that we can tell for years and never have to stretch the truth. As Captain you should be proud as we are pleased.

We will highly recommend you to any of our friends that are traveling to the Island of Kauai."
